What to look for in a boarding school athletic program
A school's varsity record tells you nothing by itself. Here's what actually predicts a great experience for a student-athlete.
- Coach backgrounds — Did they coach at the college level? Do they have active recruiter relationships?
- Alumni placement rates — How many students go on to play in college? At what division?
- Academic support for athletes — What happens when practice conflicts with class or study hall?
- Competition conference — Is the school in a conference where your student will be challenged but not crushed?
- Facility quality — Does the school have what your sport requires to develop properly?
- Culture of balance — Does the school celebrate athletes who are also strong students?
Common questions
Does boarding school guarantee college recruitment?
No — but it creates significantly better conditions for it. The coaching quality, competition level, and coach-to-recruiter relationships at top boarding programs are unmatched in most local high school environments.
What sports do you work with?
We work across all interscholastic sports offered at boarding schools. Our network is strongest in basketball, soccer, and swimming — but we have placed students in every major sport.
What if my student is not a Division I prospect?
Most athletes are not — and that's completely fine. Division II and III programs at excellent universities offer outstanding student-athlete experiences and often more flexibility around academics and life outside sport.
When should we start this process?
Ideally 18–24 months before your target enrollment year, which typically means starting in 6th or 7th grade. But we've worked with families on shorter timelines too — book a consultation and we'll tell you what's realistic.
